Thanks to the generous volunteerism of the Glaxo Smith Kline / Upper Providence Campus and the Iron Mountain crew from Collegeville - most of the tasks planned to be completed for this year's Internatrional Coastal Cleanup have been done. A Huge THANK YOU goes out to all the volunteers.
BUT...........
VOLUNTEERS ARE STILL NEEDED - PLAN TO PUT IN AN HOUR TO CLEAN-UP THE SCHUYLKILL CANAL WATERSHED.......
if you are someone who uses the canal area and the numerous trails connecting to the park, please feel free to come by the Locktender's House Saturday morning and grab a bag, some gloves and walk the trails you normally walk and pick up any trash or litter overlooked. Just be sure to place the bag of trash by one of the trash cans located at Lock 60 for proper disposal. And, please mark down on the sheet on the porch table what you picked up and where.
In addition, at 11 AM, Gray Drennen, SCA's VP, will be here to put together an "on the water" effort for anyone who has the desire to go trash picking in the river. Please bring your own boat with all the necessary safety equipment (PFD, paddle, whistle.)
The Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Clean-up Day, coordinated locally by SCA, is an international clean up effort performed by hundreds of thousands of people all over the world with the goal of removing trash and debris from our area beaches, lakes, and streams. Volunteers of all ages from every continent form the largest volunteer event on behalf of clean oceans and waterways. This year is the 27th annual clean-up effort - amazing!
This year's Schuylkill Canal ICC Fall Clean-up is again sponsored by the Altria Group of Companies, Montgomery County Parks & Heritage Services, Keep PA Beautiful and SCA.
Volunteers can register to participate by sending an email to info@schuylkillcanal.com, please include name and number of volunteers attending with any comments related to your participation. If there is inclement weather, a message will be posted on this website but the cleanup will ost likely be cancelled due to the majority of the work already completed. Please feel free to give SCA a call with any questions, 610-917-0021, or send an email to info@schuylkillcanal.com.
Thank you!
