CANCELLED - International Coastal Clean-up Day 2009

  • 14 Nov 2009
  • CANCELLED - Locktender's House, Lock 60

Cancelled due to the anticipated inclement weather, remnants of Tropical Storm Ida.  The clean up will not be rescheduled at this point due to the lateness in the year.

SCA's next scheduled clean up will be held in spring 2010, scheduled for April 17 & 18, 2010.

The Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Clean-up Day, coordinated locally by SCA, is an international clean up effort performed by hundreds of thousands of people all over the world with the goal of removing trash and debris from our area beaches, lakes, and streams. Volunteers of all ages from every continent form the largest one-day volunteer event on behalf of clean oceans and waterways.

SCA volunteers, community members and a large group from the two local John Middleton Cigar plants, a member of the Altria Group of Companies, were set to put in 8 hours of volunteer time each to clean up the 3-mile linear greenway along the Schuylkill River and Schuylkill Canal Park in Upper Providence Township, Montgomery County.

Although the clean up was cancelled, SCA does appreciate the willingness of the volunteers to participate in this year’s International Coastal Clean Up.  The event was sponsored through the generosity of  the Altria Group of Companies; Philip Morris and John Middleton Cigars. They will also be a sponsor of SCA's 2010 Earth Day clean up scheduled for April 17 & 18, 2010.  Hopefully all the volunteers who planned to participate for the fall ICC event will be available in spring 2010.
