Locktender's Open House + Wild Flower Hike
Join up with Dave Williams, a SCA member and volunteer, as he takes you for a hike along the river and ravine trails. All the while, he will point out the abundant wild flowers that are now in full bloom along the trails.
The hike will begin from the Lock 60 info kiosk no later than 1:15 PM. Please wear sturdy hiking shoes and dress according to the weather.
Dave is very knowledgeable and will be able to answer any questions related to the native plant community in the Schuylkill Canal Park. He also will have pictures and other resources to share.
Stop by the Locktender's House before or after enjoying the brisk walk. The house will be open for visitors to come and learn about the history of the Schuylkill Navigation and its industrial heritage related to the local and regional community.
Also, Lock 60 will be opened at approximately 3 PM for those willing to help with a hands-on demonstration.
Light refreshments will be served. The open house is provided free of charge, however donations will be gladly accepted.
The hike will be held if it is raining lightly but will be cancelled if there is a steady rain or downpour. The Locktender's House will be open regardless of inclement weather.
