VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED - PLAN TO PUT IN A FEW HOURS TO CLEAN-UP THE SCHUYLKILL CANAL WATERSHED.......

The Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Clean-up Day, coordinated locally by SCA, is an international clean up effort performed by hundreds of thousands of people all over the world with the goal of removing trash and debris from our area beaches, lakes, and streams. Volunteers of all ages from every continent form the largest volunteer event on behalf of clean oceans and waterways. This year is the 26th annual clean-up effort - amazing!
This year's Schuylkill Canal ICC Fall Clean-up is again sponsored by the Altria Group of Companies, Montgomery County Parks & Heritage Services, PA Cleanways, Verizon TelecomPioneers and SCA.
Volunteers should plan to meet at the Locktender's House located at Lock 60 in Mont Clare anytime after 8:00 AM, enjoy a small continental breakfast and then be ready to get to work by 9:00 AM. All the equipment will be supplied by SCA; gloves, trash bags and tools will be provided. Some of the tasks to be completed:
- remove debris from Schuylkill Canal between Lock 60 and the terminus in Port Providence
- remove debris in Schuylkill River between Lock 60 and the terminus in Port Providence
- clear trails above Lock 60 included but not limited to the trail leading upstream to Upper Schuylkill Valley Park
- litter pick-up and disposal along Schuylkill River's east bank from Black Rock Dam to the Rt. 29 Bridge. edge between
Please plan to volunteer whatever time you can allow; and please do dress according to the weather and in comfortable clothes and shoes that can get dirty and wet. If you plan to participate with on-the-water activities, please bring a change of clothing.
