As in year's past -- SCA promises a day full of great activities and a great time. Well over 3,000 visitors are expected to participate in Canal Day as they enjoy all the day’s fun activities along the Schuylkill Canal.

Canal Day is the Association’s opportunity to increase awareness of the great significance the Schuylkill Canal played in our community’s growth and prosperity. Every day is Canal Day for those of us involved with maintaining this great community resource but each year we do reach out to the community at large and ask you to get involved too by being a part of this great day.

All the traditional fun competitive activities include: 5-Mile Trail Run, Kids Fishing Derby, Sly Fox Kan Jam Tournament, 5-Mile Canoe/Kayak Race, and the Infamous Canal Joust Championship.

Family friendly attractions include: Petting Zoo, Pony Rides, Old Canal Days Stories and Songs, Kids Fishing Derby, and more.  Click here for a preliminary full list of events.

Music is always a big part of Canal Day and this year is no different.  This year's exciting line-up includes local musical talent Was It Purple (11AM), Afrobear (1PM), and Bent Benjamins (4PM).

The kids fishing derby is free and no registration is needed! The  event is for kids 12 and under and will be happening between 9 AM and 12 PM with prizes offered by French Creek Outfitters.   A limited number of fishing rods will be available for those without equipment and there will be plenty of bait and tackle also provided by French Creek Outfitters.

SCA is inviting you to show your support of the Schuylkill Canal Association for its continued stewardship and preservation of the canal. $5 parking is available at St. Michael's Park.  A wheelchair / handicap-accessible shuttle bus will be available, free-of-charge, for those who are not able to walk through to the Lock 60 area.

All who attend will enjoy a great deal of fun along the canal all day long.

Highlighted throughout the day will be the 19th century industrial history of the Schuylkill Navigation, four lock openings are scheduled for the day. Also highlighted will be the recreational features available today along the 3-mile linear greenway maintained on the Schuylkill River’s edge in Upper Providence Township, Montgomery County. The Schuylkill Canal Park provides access for boating, fishing and hiking along multiple trails; both land and water, for visitors of all ages and life styles to enjoy.

See you there !
